Serving homeless pregnant women & teens  in Polk County, FL

NLC was the vision of its founder and executive director, Carolyn Sandifer Espina.

Carolyn wanted to help young, homeless, pregnant women see available options during their pregnancies…. And began working with them on the pathway to become strong and loving mothers and self-sufficient, contributing members of society.

The New Life Center for Family Preservation (NLC), a non-profit 501(c) 3, established in June 2012, in Polk County, Florida, serves pregnant, homeless and low-income women and teens (18 and older).

In 2014, a residential program was opened.  This supportive housing facility is capable of accommodating four homeless women, their infants and a full time Resident Director.

The focus of the NLC is to meet the needs of the homeless pregnant women and support them in their desire to keep and raise their child…. changing lives two at a time.

The residents at the NLC pursue educational and employment opportunities with the ultimate goal of becoming independent and productive members of our society.

The residents also participate in church activities, community service projects and social events.   They can remain in the facility and continue to receive services while they are actively working their individual case plan.

NLC’s services currently include:

  • Housing
  • Transportation to physician appointments
  • Birth coach (doula) services
  • Spiritual guidance
  • Life skills training and parenting support
  • Referrals to community services
  • Access to infant and maternity items, supplies and furniture
  • Case management (goal setting)
  • Assistance with Medicaid, Food Stamps and WIC processing
All services provided by NLC are free of charge, with the exception of the Doula care, which is based on a sliding fee scale.  The NLC is open to single, pregnant women and teens (18 and older) in and around Polk County.

"To help homeless women experiencing their unplanned pregnancies find new life in Jesus Christ by meeting their spiritual, emotional and
 tangible needs.

While participating in our program, residents will pursue educational and employment opportunities as they strive to become independent, productive members of our society."

"My command is this:  Love each other as I have loved you."
